AIandYou and the National Urban League Announce Partnership to Engage and Educate the Community about Artificial Intelligence

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Francisco, CA, Apr 20, 2021 – AIandYou, a nonprofit platform engaging and educating underrepresented communities about artificial intelligence (AI), and the National Urban League, a historic civil organization dedicated to economic empowerment in historically underserved urban communities, are partnering to create a more inclusive AI experience for the communities often left behind by the advent and implementation of new technologies.

The partnership will include community outreach, content creation for the AIandYou.org platform, and special event conversations with Black AI leaders. This partnership is the first time a major organization serving the African American community is prioritizing AI community education.

Founded in 1910 and headquartered in New York City, the National Urban League spearheads the efforts of its local affiliates through the development of programs, public policy research, and advocacy. Today, the National Urban League has 90 affiliates serving 300 communities in 37 states and the District of Columbia, providing direct services that impact and improve the lives of more than two million people nationwide.

“We recognize the importance of educating our community about artificial intelligence and its impact on the local Black economy,” said Marc Morial, President, National Urban League. “This partnership is our first step in a long road of educating our communities about the opportunities and challenges of AI and local economies”.

The AIandYou.org platform serves as a place where leaders and community members from science, education, civil rights, and professional communities come together to learn about artificial intelligence, to identify biases and solutions, and to create more equity in the communities often overlooked in technology.

“AI can bring many benefits to the community and it can also create harm,” said Susan Gonzales, CEO, AIandYou. “AI touches everything including small businesses, job hiring, job training, transportation, health, criminal justice and more. The partnership with the National Urban League is a great step forward to educating our communities and including everyone in the dialogue about AI.”
