EqualAI, a nonprofit organization and leading voice focused on reducing unconscious bias in the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI), today announced the addition of Susan Gonzales, CEO of AIandYou, to its board of directors.

“I am thrilled to have Susan join our team. Her deep experience in tech and her decades of experience in fostering an inclusive community approach will be important additions to our efforts to ensure that AI is inclusive, equitable and effective,” said Miriam Vogel, president and CEO of EqualAI. “She joins EqualAI at an exciting time as we prepare to launch the EqualAI Badge Program for corporate senior executives and a series of events with U.S. policy makers.”

“Helping companies reduce bias in their AI is critical for all communities and has long been a passion of mine,” said Susan Gonzales. “I’m honored to work with the EqualAI Board and team on AI accountability, inclusivity and equity.”

Susan spent most of her career in senior roles leading community outreach to diverse populations, creating partnerships and educating influencers about technology, including while at Facebook where she led community engagement efforts. Susan launched AIandYou when she noticed the chasm that existed between the AI ecosystem and underserved communities of color. She is committed to creating a global platform of accessible and easy-to-understand information about AI.

Previously, Susan worked in policy for Comcast and created an outreach network of communities of color and other marginalized communities. Susan has spent most of her career focused on engaging communities of color around policy issues. She brings a unique perspective from Washington, D.C. corporate policy and the tech sector in Silicon Valley.

EqualAI is also excited to announce the addition of a new Senior Advisor, Ashley Casovan. Ashley brings years of relevant experience from her work in the Canadian Government where she served as Director of Data and Digital for the Government of Canada, and from her current position as Executive Director of AI Global, a non-profit that shares a focus on facilitating responsible use of AI in society, including the development of an AI certification and other initiatives directly aligned with the mission of EqualAI.

“I’m incredibly excited to become a Senior Advisor for Equal AI,” said Ashley Casovan. “I believe their efforts to increase awareness about the potential harms of AI systems and advocate for reform by educating people and decision-makers is how real change will be realized.”
