AIandYou is a community-facing platform intended to foster a more inclusive and empathetic artificial intelligence ecosystem. AIandYou is creating a global dialogue between AI leaders and diverse communities in order to prepare for AI’s impact at the local level, strengthen our local communities through the use of AI and identify solutions that minimize bias.
Try as we might, we can’t predict the future. But what we do know is that the overwhelming fear that communities experience in the face of extraordinary change can be mitigated through education and conversation. As it stands now, engagement with AI and AI-related issues is largely absent in the communities where it’s needed most: places where automation and other AI-related tools are laying waste to employment opportunities and local economies. So what can AIandYou do? To start, we comb the web for stories about AI, helping translate often-complex ideas into easy to understand language. Most importantly, we can create a platform where leaders and laypeople from the science, education, civil rights, and professional communities unite in common cause to learn about artificial intelligence, to identify biases and dismantle them, and to work to make the world a more equal and accommodating place for all people.
About AI and You
Based in the Bay Area, AIandYou is a project of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to educating and engaging communities of color about artificial intelligence and highlighting diverse AI leaders and their work.
AIandYou was founded by Susan Gonzales. Gonzales is a former Facebook executive. “We can empower underrepresented communities with information about the impact of AI on their local economies and everyday lives,” Gonzales said. “We need to have conversations about the opportunities and challenges AI brings to our communities, especially in a post COVID-19 environment. Automation in a post COVID-19 environment is one of the many topics to be explored."
